Working from the top down
Can you tell that I'm finally back sewing?? Free I say ...FREE!!
So on the weekend I literally did not come out of the woman cave. I spent one day on Miss G's birthday quilt and got the top done. I am super jealous of her getting this as her present and feel like I am brewing plans for a proper one for my bed...I cant let her have all the fun!
To make the quilt I worked in sections - roughly pillow case lengths as most of my blocks were constructed from collected pillow cases. I added, layered and sewed on to the pillow cases and then laid them out on the floor....it looked white - a bit bland - till I found some quilting strips in a beautiful retro orange and pink. I laid the strips between the rectangle blocks and suddenly the project looked a lot brighter. It felt just right - and will suit her to a tee.
There is too much pink in this design for my tastes but I know that this is something that my little girl can have and treasure forever.
When I was given my machine the lovely lady who gave "loaned" me it also included a walking foot. I practiced using it on a mini quilt for Miss G's doll house and found it to be A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! So wonderful is that little foot that I am now thinking of quilting this myself rather than taking into be professionally done....I hear the local quilting lady is in high demand...
Last night I also worked on some dolls clothes for an extra for her Birthday Pressie...she just saw them on screen and I didn't hear a thing about them. I'm not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
It was fun to make some miniature clothes. I downloaded some free patterns from the internet to start with but after a while I just free formed a few items - including the cutest little wool blanket coat. Wont Barbie be pretty!!
I have more projects brewing for her Birthday - did anyone say (handmade) Spoilt!!
