Small Things

Sometimes when you are meant to be sewing/doing other things there comes an urge to do completely the opposite. I am not joking when I say that I spent the entire weekend in the Woman Cave organising and cleaning. I pulled up some old shelves from the shed - scrubbed them and let them dry - then started loading them up with all my crap precious treasures.

I cannot explain how happy this has made me - it's the small things that are most satisfying. For nearly my whole life I have depended on other people for my happiness when in reality most of those people were actually holding me back and weighing me down with drama. With one last turbulent friendship I have decided that only I can make me happy - depend on - and trust. I wont be making those mistakes again. How does the saying go? Don't ever mistake my silence for ignorance, my calmness for acceptance and my kindness for weakness. Truer words have never been said about how I feel right now. Now lets move on.

Part of my clearing out I happily discovered that a huge part of my hoarding was actually for my Artist in Residency at my local (and former) high school. The project involves upcycling clothes and textiles. A huge pile was happily extracted from the Woman Cave and then taken down to be used by the students in the near future. This week I started that residency that will continue over the next two terms. I am happy to announce that the first lessons were on pintrest and blogging, concepts that are extremely relevant to those would want to create their own "making" business in a regional location. You can have a look at the start of their blogging journey HERE. If you could show your support and comment on their work along the way as well we would be extremely grateful.

I have also had offers for three new graphic design jobs and will hopefully be able to show you some new design work soon. Its a feast or famine around here.

What little thing has made you happy this week?

Looks like a creative womans cave there Michelle! Sounds like u doing well in Wynyard. Would be great to run into you when we visit the NW coast. Little thing that has made me happy today? My partner bought a new wood fire box that has a stove compartment on the bottom and am currently cooking our first meal in it. (It burns wood more efficiently and being in a rural area we are self sufficient in fire wood that needs to be burnt anyway to keep us fire safe in summer so a win all round)

Oh my gosh I'm jealous of your fabric stash.. amazing.
I have reorganising my fabric/sheet/tea towel collection on my to-do list. at the moment it's all mixed together and I want to have separate cases for each.

The Woman Cave just looks like such a great place to be! It looks like you're having a great time as artist in residence at the high school - I'm so chuffed for both you and the kids, what a brilliant experience for all of you guys to have together! x
