Refashioning
Recently I decided that I needed some grown up clothes to wear to school when teaching and doing my artist in residency. I decided a long time ago that shirts are just not acceptable clothing for a full breasted lady. Shirts have obstacles for my fit - gaping and the dreaded hang from the tip of the breast to give the illusion that one may just be pregnant or incredibly fat - there is just no shape in them for me.
In winter I often convert my summer clothes to winter clothes with addition of tights and long sleeve tops worn underneath. However my back is often still cold and in addition I have taken to wearing a vest over the layers as well. I found a couple at op shops but most are ill fitting or only suitable to wear around the farm.
Laying in bed (where the best plans are made) I had a light bulb moment of creating some vest from old jumpers for myself just like I used to create for the babies.
The very next day I cut off the sleeves of a few jumpers - bound the cute edges, added details and TA-DA by the end of the day I had eight new pieces to add to my wardrobe. I can now confidently wear shirts with a vest over the top as protection against bagging and gaping with the side bonus of incredible warmth and minimal movement restriction.
I also took in some vintage jumpers and shirts to fit better. I love vintage but mostly I either look like an actual old woman wearing them or they are all baggy in exactly the most unflattering places. I don't know why I don't adjust more vintage pieces to suit. I guess the fear of mucking up something old and unique still gets to me but I am happy to say I am conquering that fear very well.
How is your winter wardrobe shaping up? What has been your latest and greatest winter warmer addition?
